Great weather continues so I decided to grab the chance of walking up Helvellyn (the third highest peak in England (949m). Mary dropped me off at Grasmere to start the long slog up Little Tongue to Grisdale Tarn. Dark clouds hovered over Helvellyn but slowly gave way to clear blue sky as I climbed. The climb up to Dollywagon Pike was steep but became easier as I reached Nethermost Pike and the walk along to top to Helvellyn was a breeze (even a mountain bike rider passed me on the way down!). I had a bite to eat at the top but even in the four walled wind shelter it was not very comfy given the usual high peak winds. I then set off down the Striding Edge route a slipping and a sliding down to the more defined track. I had a proper break overlooking Red Tarn and then it was literally down hill all the way to Glenridding. On arriving at Glenridding I found that I had no mobile reception so was considering my option as to how to meet up with Mary when she just appeared out of the local newsagent. So we went for the obligatory post-walk drink and then returned to Cowan Bridge just on dusk.
