First Days

22 August

You think you’ve seen ‘busy’ try Departures at 6am on Monday morning at Brisbane Domestic Airport – wow! Apparently all those cheap flights between 6 and 7 am really do attract a huge market. Although our shuttle bus driver said it’s Mondays that is the real winner – probably fly out/fly in. If that’s the case then it’s probably reflected in the evening arrivals on Fridays.

But no worries for us – the International Terminal was in a state of relative calm. Checked in at just after 6 and we were sitting having breakfast by 6.30. Away on time at 8.30 and fed at regular intervals during the day and arrived at 5.30pm local time. No state of calm at Incheon Airport – the place was like the Royal Easter Show and the Melbourne Cup day rolled into one – and throw an NRY and a AFL Final just for a side dish. Must be the AUD currency and the lack of ash clouds from unpronounceable volcanoes. Anway finally cleared immigration and customs and checked in at the Hyatt Regency Incheon. Dinner on the house and so to bed.

The flight to London was excellent – Korean Air is a commendable airline for any over 180cm. far more leg room and seat width than other carriers we have used. We arrived on time and caught the shuttle out to the Hertz depot where we were quickly on our way only to miss the turning to the M25. Soon recovered and made good progress eastward until we were flashed by other motorists that we had no lights on. Searched for several minutes before we discovered the light switch well concealed especially for jet lagged drivers. We eventually arrived at my brother’s place in Wivenhoe and after a snack retired to our bed.

Today was basically a recovery day – that is a realignment of our body clocks.
